Ban Bucknor!!

Razzaq to Tendulkar, out Caught by Akmal!!, ball moving out, Sachin plays a bit far from his body, the ball is inches away from the bat, there is no appeal from the behind, only Razzaq appeals and we just dont have words for Steve Bucknor, we just hope he never officates again, Sachin is aghast.

And, the result is India is left tottering at 133/3 at the end of today’s play against Pakistan at Eden Gardens, Kolkatta.

There is not even and appeal and Bucknor who harbours ill-will against India makes it clear yet again, what a stupid old man he is.

Nobody, nobody except Razzaq appealed, this is outrageous.

Steve Bucknor’s decisions are pretty good when he is officiating matches not involving India. But most of his blatantly wrong decisions have come against India. He has even cooked up an excuse for this - “There is lot of crowd noise in matches inolving India”. He gave this reason again in an interview before this match. The worst thing is that he never admits his wrong decisions. Umpires like David Sheppard (appologized to Pakistan after Pakistan lost to England due to two bad decisions) and Billy Bowden have come out and admitted their mistakes. But Bucknor has never admitted and has always maintained his wrong decisions as right.

Its high time he is forcibly retired from the game and as there exists a code of conduct for players; umpires also be brought under a code and their performance be made a major clause in the code.

Some of the instances where Indian players have been Bucknored:

  1. Not refering Jonty Rhodes to the third umpire when television replays showed he was well short of his ground. India v/s South Africa, SA. This didn’t help India and had a big impact on the outcome.
  2. Giving Tendulkar LBW in Brisbane, when the ball was going two feet over the stumps. Only Gillespie appealed hard and he too gave up. He was suprised when the decision went in his favor.
  3. Justin Langer in Sydney was LBW a couple of times. Mr. Bucknor did not give him out.
  4. Murali Karthik had got Damien Martyn trapped LBW. He too lived thanks to Bucknor.
  5. Poor little Parthiv Patel was scolded by him for excessive appealing in Sydney.
  6. Bucknor showed his immaturity while mocking at a sportsman like Dravid in the VB series. He was apparently imitating him doctor the ball. How kiddish for a 56 year old?
  7. Lahore Test: two LBWs and one caught behind went against India thanks to Bucknor. This helped Pakistanis to beat India.
  8. Bangalore test against Australia: Bowden might have given the shocker decision to Sehwag, but Bucknor followed it up with bad decisions to Chopra, Laxman, Patel and Dravid. All LBWs courtesy Bucknor. And not one was convincing. And atleast Bowden was man enough to admit his mistakes and publicly apologize.
  9. Kolkatta Test: Now Tendulkar gets a shocker in Bucknor’s 100 Test match.

Why didn’t Ganguly and Wright protest when Bucknor was made Umpire for this test? :-|

hmm…I didn’t know that so many wrong decision were based on Bucknor’s umpiring. I knew there were some…but I guess the list is too long.
And it happened again in the last match -and that too against Tendulkar?? Not done!
You are right, Ganguly needed to raise a concern when Bucknor was appointed to be the umpire for this game….
I hate it when India loses just because of wrong decisions made by the umpires (especially when the match is against Pakistan).
Poor Sachin…had to leave because of the dubious decision by Bucknor.
I think Bucknor needs to head back to West Indies and get some other job!

Even I have been noticing this menace from past few years. Its harsh but its true. While I don’t think that his umpiring mistakes are a result of his prejudice but I know that these people viz. bucknor, clive etc. discriminate against asians even when they themself are coloured. bloody hell!

[All] All’s well, if it ends well :) Yuppie, India is 1-0 up the series!! Even Bucknor couldn’t stop the inevitable.

Now, hoping that Bucknor isn’t allowed to officiate in the next test match at Bangalore atleast!

hmm, indeed… a great win.. Three cheers to the great wall and the fast bowler turned spinner Kumble ;)
thank goodness, that Bucknor’s decision didn’t affect the match… otherwise it’d have been really bad..

[Prasad] Exactly… what I was thinking.. if India hadn’t won the match.. Bucknor would have been made a scapegoat by the media..
