Ordered Dell Inspiron 9300

Posted by Manpreet on May 23rd, 2005

I was thinking of buying a laptop since last few months. But, wasn’t able to get a good deal in India. So, finally, I have asked one of my friends in US to order it and get it for me, just ‘coz lappies are lot cheaper there than here in India. I have zeroed in on Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. Saw it at one of the stores in Delhi, and was really impressed by it.

BTW, I’ve ordered this configuration: Pentium Centrino 1.60 GHz, 17″ UXGA widescreen with TrueLife, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB HDD 7200rpm, 128 MB Radeon Graphics Card, 6 USB ports, 8x CD/DVD writer etc. Yup, yup, yup… its a monster! Grrr…!! :)

It will still take few weeks before I can get my hands on it. Can’t wait!! :)

sounds gr8!! I love Dell. My PC is Dell. Few days ago I read that some Indian company was creating a lappy for arnd $200… this was /.

Neways have fun with it….

So how much is this costing you ?

[Gaurav] Yeah.. even I had heard about that Rs. 10000 laptop… it will be good for people who want it a very very basic portable PC.. nothing more than that!!

[Anil] It’s about $2050, but after using Dell coupons, I’m getting $750 off. So, net cost is about $1300. The same lappy with lesser config costs about 86000 bucks in India!!

Wow!!. Thats a cool deal buddy!!. Here too, laptops are a bit expensive compared to US. Anyways, good choice. Enjoy. :)

[Govind] Yeah.. 750usd discount is awesome!! Ya, I know.. lappies are expensive in Europe as well.. Actually, initially, I was thinking of getting it from UK.. but after researching a lot, I found out.. that’s its expensive there.. !!

Good that you decided on one. Hmm…$1300..kind of steep for a laptop..these days you can get the best of the best desktop PC for less than that. But hey if paisa hai aur khush ho toh kya tension hai.

[Poonam] yeah, I know.. the best of the best desktops cost less than $1300 these days!! but, since i travel so much.. and since i will be joining a b-school… i will need it… can’t keep on dragging my desktop with me everywhere!!

for a lappy… $1300 seems fine for this config.. i checked out sony… they costs $2000+.. no discounts
toshiba… not too good… again very few discounts
fujitsu… way to expensive for me
hp/compaq… not good.. ur opinion

so.. dell seemed to me the best bet.. 1300 dollar fook diye ab to :p

good config manpreet.. everything is great but i personally feel that 14″ or max 15″ should be the screen size for laptop 17″ :) it will look like a desktop with so big screen :)…

you should have gone for a Sony Vaio…

hey manpreet, u shud chk out wal-mart n other online shops they hv some good deals… i think 1300 is a lil steep…

o hell no i just reread the post… 1GB RAM ! awesome !!! kick ass…

just chk the battery pack thingy… n get one extra fr there itself… or u will b using paper/pencil in ur classes after 3 hrs :P

o just imagine if the lecture is boring u cud watch a movie on that ULTRA WIDE 17″ SCREEN !!! awesome hehe… hv fun !

[Manish] I checked out the difference between 15″ and 17″ screen… when u keep both these notebooks side by side, u won’t really notice much difference in size.. its only an inch or inch and a half wider.. that’s it.. and weight is also roughly same..

Moreoever, i was looking for a desktop replacement… which i could carry with me whenever i want to… that’s why i choosed 17″ screen!

[Sushubh] Vaio’s are very expensive… way beyond my budget!!

[Kunal] I have seen almost all sites… amazon, walmart, ebay.. etc… nowhere i could find a better deal than this… this $750 discount is just available till this weekend… after that nobody won’t even get that discount!!

Haha.. watching movies while the lecture is on will be fun :p.. just hoping that it doesn’t shows in my report card :D

Me sad to see this post.. :(
why don’t u plan to get an IBM Thinkpad… don’t think am marketing for my company.. :))
I scolded my sis too when she got that Dell laptop.. who knows even if I plan to buy.. I’ll go for one thats cheaper…

[Prasad] I didn’t go for IBM thinkpad ‘coz IBM doesn’t sells thinkpads now!! :) Lenova, a chinese company has taken over their laptop business.

On the serious note, thinkpads are quite expensive. And, for the features I wanted, Dell provided me the best price. Plus, read lots of reviews on the web, which compelled me to go for this one.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Dell sucks! :) … i have one which i bought 8 months ago and am already thinking of trading it in for a Mac.

hey manpreet cool that’s good price.. yeah i know the cost increased coz of the duties etc … i have been wanting to buy ipod but its expensive coz of duties… so gave up the idea as of now

hey btw howz Compaq ? Probably I just might get it.. as surprise gift which I already know about lol just waiting for my examz result

gaurav that 200$ thingy is mobilis i think its linux based.. but i dont think it would be like a total featured laptop would be something like compact basic computer that’s it earlier there was something called simputer launched a pc for farmers

Great Manpreet :!:
Less than Rs 60,000 is really cheap for this configuration.
Congrats!

[Mayank] Ya, I know Dell are not the best. But, for the budget I had, I guess this is the best I could have got. And, Macs are cool… but its hard to get their software!!

[Puneet] Compaq.. as far as i know, they are not good… not very reliable.. get heated up very easily.. and are not too sturdy!!

Ya that $200 lappy is a linux based system, and has just basic config.. nothing else!

[Ankur] :D

I don’t know about you guys but I have had a Dell for quite some time now..and I love it! I am going to buy another one as well..there is not another reliable computer company out there for the price that Dell gives you! Its really worth it here in the US.. don’t know about in India.

Dell is good… compaq wud not recommend… hp good too… ibm Good n expensive…

i think 1300 is a good deal for the config u hv mentioned… also there wont be ne duty if ur frnd is getting it coz everyone is allowed to carry one laptop now… ipod also if u hv someone coming then no duty puneet…

[Poonam] Ya, I have read lots and lots of reviews.. only after that i made this decision.. Talked to people in my company who procure hardware for employees.. even they recommended me this deal!

[Kunal] Ya, there would be no duty.. if they was a duty.. i would have bought from India itself!! :)

Watched War of the Worlds. Tim…

You have got a very good deal. I am also buying a 9300, but from Dell India. Will cost around 90k  . This is a very good machine, top-notch! (I have also been reading reviews from the web; think I read all of them!) Also everything  works under linux. This is important for me as I use linux (for everything. Love the rock-solid stability and lack of viruses). I am getting the nvidia card for good graphics.

From my experience with Dell, I can say that their service in India is quite good, and I find their hardware quite reliable. (The two linux systems I have run perfectly, no hardware failures, and no reboots in over two years, except few power failures and once when I updated the OS a year ago)

I will get my machine in about 3 weeks. Will post an update on how it performs!

Just as most of said…..Dell offers the best value for money…i too ordered my Dell 9300 from USA….for like 1200$…and will ask someone to get it to india….costs like 85000+ for same config india…its high time notebooks got cheap here..
