Indian Trains - Online Ticket Booking

For the first time ever, I booked my train tickets online using IRCTC’s site. Must say, this facility looks to be pretty good. Now, we don’t have to go through travel agents or stand in long ques outside railway reservation counters. Just log on, enter the details, and you are done! Wow!

I will be going to Amritsar on Wedenesday morning, and will be back by late in the night. But, for that I need to have tickets in my hand. Let’s see how fast do the railway guys deliver tickets. I hope they are delivered before the date of journey

Have anybody of you booked tickets online ever? If yes, let me know how was the experience and the service.

Edit - 1.05pm @ 11th July
Withing 20 hours of booking tickets online, they have been delivered at my place. Awesome!! Never thought the service will be so efficient. Hats off to Indian Railways!

neeraj uses the online only and has been for quite some time..in fact i just bought his mumbai to hindaun city tickets for him just yesterday….not a new facility that they have but it is quite nice to be able to not have to stand in any queue. Hopefully soon they will also do the cancellation of tickets online as well.

[Tanya] Yeah

[Poonam] Ya, i know its not a new facility… but i used it for the first time.. Generally, i used to just call up my travel agent.. and tickets were delivered at my doorstep. This time I just thought of ordering them online. And, the experience has been good!

I’ve also used this online facility quite alot of time..
even y’day I book a ticket to my native in Kerala.. :)
and u know u can even track ur courier in which the ticket comes… so, even if u don’t get it, u can go to that particular courier office and get it..
nice service and they’ve tied up with almost all major banks for online payment.. too good.. :)

Well its been there since sometime now :). But the weirdest part is the lack of security awareness in Indian websites. For Pete’s sake its an ‘e-commerce’ website which is meant to be secure and last I checked in couple of months ago, it was not even encrypted :O . Which makes me wonder…Why is it that we Indians can’t do work professional quality work for our own country..Well Sorry for the rant but I was really pissed seeing it :)

Nice blog though.
