Sania - Is it your day?
It happens very rarely, that sports other than cricket make it to the headlines in Indian Newspapers. The way Sania Mirza is getting news coverage is quite unprecedented in this cricket crazy nation.
Initially, people including me thought that Sania’s performance is just one-off, and just like other Indian sportmen or women for the matter, she will soon go into an oblivion. But, we were so wrong. Sania infact has been performing really well and too consistently, and as a result has set up a 4th round clash with current tennis queen Maria Sharapova. It is being touted as a match between two glam girls of international tennis.
One thing to notice is that, in all the previous rounds in this tournament she defeated women who had their names starting with ‘M’. Now, is ‘M’aria also going to join this brigade? Let’s keep our fingers crossed!!

Puneet: Sania does play very well, and looks even better
BTW, I do feel she has a great chance to beat Maria for the simple reason that she is the underdog here. So, no pressure at all. As a result, she can play her natural game with flair. On the otherhand Sharapova has a reputation at stake. Let’s see who has greater fire in her belly =) I really wish its Sania who goes into the next round!

Just today I had heard these news, and then saw your post.
All the best to Sania. Even if she doesn’t make it forward, what she has acheived so far is a major improvement. She is going to win one of these tournaments.

gaurav :-p…. didnt expected her to win i thought probably she would give a good fight thats it…. lose with decent score.
but in news and tv etc people hype it up so much that if someone looses it seem bad.. i mean i think she has potential some day she would make big..
but give her space that should be comment for media :-p

Poonam: Even though she lost, she has done well, has reached where no other Indian girl has reached ever. Lets hope she wins some day =)
Gaurav & Puneet:
Yup, even I didn’t expected her to win against Maria. But, expected a better fight from her.
Talking about media, India is sports starved nation (cricket doesn’t counts here). So, when somebody reaches a 4th round of tournament of such stature, he/she is bound to get attention. Add to that she is a glam doll. Media loves that! You can’t do anything!

Prasad: How are you dude? Long time no see? As for me, I just read about her in the newspaper. Don’t have much time to watch TV.. anyways, good that Indians do support sportmen other then cricketers. BTW those poor chaps again lost a final!! Man, there are so consistent in this…. !!

Sania has a lot of potential. I mean, she is only 18 yrs. old and she went all the way to the fourth round. What more could she ask for? Of course, she wants to achieve more but whatever she has done so far is phenomenal. Way to go, Sania.
