Summers @ SOM
Just 3-4 days before we were having our end term exams, and now the place has started buzzing again. And, this time, its due to reason that soon major companies from all sectors will be coming to the campus for summer placements.
So, everybody is busy sprucing there resumes, attending pre-placement talks, analyzing the prospects in various companies and sectors. As for me, I am planning to do summers in a non-IT company, simply for the reason, I want to check whether I can fit in Finance, Marketing or Operations profiles. A stint with a non-IT company will also enable me to gain a wider perspective of the business. A 2 month project in a software company won’t help me much in terms of value addition. I already know a lot about the sector. Whereas, if I get placed in a FMCG or a finance company or anyother company for the matter, I would gain valueable experience in those fields as well. And, if by mistake, finance ya marketing pasand aa gayi, I would be even able to make a shift.
Enough of dreaming.. and speculation…
Back to work..

I think it’s an excellent idea to try to work in non-IT company to know whether you like it or not. You are totally right, by knowing more about finance, business, you will have more knowledge. Combination between IT and Finance are excellent! Wish you the best

Mona: Well, I’m not looking exactly at combo of IT and finance. I just want to do something other than IT - whether its marketing, operations or even HR - I won’t mind. I just want to gain a broader perspective of business.

Not a bad decision at all ..
Especially when u say u already have experiences from the IT industry. These days when IT is becoming a part of every core business sector , even if u decide to jump into a non IT sector u’d still be able to throw up practical implementations to ppl which have a shade of IT perspective in it!That wud keep u one up on most others who have experience from say only teh FMCG sector.
Keep up teh gud work!
