Bumpy life @ Hostel
Day 1 on campus:
It was late July’ 05 evening. I had just joined my hostel at SOM. And, it was going to my first night over here. Next day, I had an early morning class. As it was going to be the first class at SOM, I decided to go to bed early. After some time, I was suddenly awaken by loud noises - they were noises of people shouting on the floor above mine. I thought that a fight must have taken place between some guys - that’s usual for any hostel/college anywhere in the world. So, I simply ignored it, and went off to sleep.
Day 3 on campus:
But, a couple of days later, same thing happened again - same type of noises came from outside - and that too at almost the same time at which it had happened before. “These guys
must be crazy”, I thought, and went into my dreamworld again.
Day 4 on campus:
To my amazement, the earlier events took place yet again! “Ah! This is height of coincidence - kuch aur hi khichdi hogi”. So, I got out of my room, asked one of my batchmates - “what’s goin’ on over here?”. He told me, that it must be somebody’s birthday, and the poor soul must be getting bumps from his friends. LOL.
Actually, if you had stayed in a hostel ever, this is a kind of ritual or a practice. Right at 12 in the night, the bakra (or you may call him the birthday boy) is taken out on the corridors of the hostel. And, then he is smacked on his butts from almost everybody from his wing/batch/class. But, the most amazing and the most amusing thing about this ritual, is that you don’t need to be a birthday boy to get bumps. In the heat of the moment, even if somebody by any chance calls your name, the junta is ever ready to pounce on the new bakra. LOL.
The reasons for getting bumps could be many:
- you win a contest. you are bumped.
- you go on a date. you are bumped.
- you are dumped by your girlfriend. you are dumped. LOL.
- or sometimes even if there is no reason at all 
Man, this ritual can send shivers down anybody’s spine. To survive through this merciless ordeal is indeed an achievement. Repeated pleas for not giving bumps usually fell on deaf ears. LOL.
I sometimes really feel jealous of those people who are little on the healthier side - nobody is even able to pick them, leave alone kick their ass.
Overall, birthdays celebrations in hostel are fun (even if they are little painful. LOL). They have a different charm over here. A wonderful experience (until you are not the victim yourself ofcourse :P).
PS: No prizes for guessing why I wrote this post. Yes.. yes… my butts are aching. 
Now, puhleeeez… don’t laugh.

birthday wishes dude…though late….birthday celebrations in hostel are soo much fun….in winters we used to sleep early n then set our alarm lil before 12 am n then get up n go to give budday bumps to friends…juniors…sometimes seniors too:lol:

§ Happy Belated Birthday, Manpreet. Ha ha, birthday bumps can be a lot of fun & pain. I saw that for the first time when I went to my hubby’s b’day (who was not my hubby at that time) and he got them from bunch of his friends. They were hitting him so hard, that it was not even funny. I literally begged them to let him go, but ofcourse no one cared to listen to me. Infact one of his friends had steel toe shoes on. Can’t imagine what all can boys do. I remember with us girls, it used to be a lot simper. We used to have a birthday bite, where all the guests to the b’day party used to mix up all that they could-spices, ketchup, vinegar, pizza, etc to make it the yuckiest thing to taste….and ofcourse the b’day girl had to eat it. I thought that in itself was bad enough.
Anyways, as long as it happens only once in the whole year, it’s not too bad. Afterall u have to pay the price of being in this world for one more year:) Hope u had a wonderful day.
