A week in Bangalore

It’s been a week since I have landed in this city, and I’m already done with 1/8th of my summer training.

As a trainee, I’ve been give the project to streamline and digitalize the various processes of pre-sales, after-sales and product delivery. Sounds interesting to me. Lets see how fast can I doom this company :P

Anyways, this city has changed a lot over the last two years.

First, there are number of new glass buildings which have come up everywhere. Every TDH of software industry has a presence in Bangalore now.

Secondly, the traffic has gone worse. Travelling around the city is a pain, real pain!! and even more if you don’t have any personal vehicle with you, and are solely dependent on the city autos. Autowallas in Bangalore remind me of Delhi. They are invariable looking for an excuse to charge exhorbitant amount of money.

“Night time ho gaya hai… to 1.5 times charge lagega” - legally, night charges start at 10pm, but looks like that bangalore autowalla’s watches are synchronized with UAE’s time I guess, coz they start demanding late night charge from as early as 7.30pm.

“One way hai… wahan se wapis ghoom ke aana padega” - WTF? What can I do for that? It’s not my fault that its one-way!

“Sunday hai” - LOL! sunday hai.. to extra charge… why? i can’t get this!

The list can go on and on! Don’t know whats the government is doing for this.

Must admit, that autowalla’s in Mumbai are the most honest lot in the country. They don’t even ask for 1 Re more than the fare mentioned in the meter. But, maybe thats ‘coz fares in Mumbai are already the highest in the country (roughly Rs. 10 per km - compare that with Rs. 6 per km in Delhi and Bangalore).

Thirdly, with the influx of so many migrants from all over the country and world, Bangalore has become very, very crowded. Places like MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Forum etc look more like Dadar Station in Mumbai rather than any markets. No doubt, there’s so much hue and cry being raised by citizens and corporates against the government to do something to improve the infrastructure of the city.

Talking about weather - its absolutely magnificent if you compare it with the mid 40 degrees celcius in Delhi or the high humidity levels of Mumbai. And, it should become better as moonsoons are just few weeks away!

Food - with some inputs from Mehak regarding good restaurants in and around my place, food hasn’t been much of a problem. Have tried Kebab Magic, KC Dass, Garam Masala, Park View, Chungs, Punjabi Times, Queens etc over the last one week. If you know any other good place to have a meal in and around JP Nagar (3rd phase), do let me know!

Adios!
