Hosting blues
For the past few months, I’ve been experiencing problems with my host. There are frequent downtimes. Sometimes my latest posts and comments disappear into this air. The support guys are pathetic. And if these were not enough, here comes the latest issue:
I have been trying to post over here for the past 4-5 days, but somehow I’m not able to log in to my account. Everytime I try, wordpress asks me to upgrade my database. But, today suprisingly, I managed to get through - don’t ask me how!
Moreover, I am not able to access this site whenever I add ‘www’ in front of ‘dotmsb.com’ i.e. http://www.dotmsb.com, but it works fine if i type in http://dotmsb.com instead. Wierd!
Anyways, I guess I should be looking for a new host. Any recommendations?

yeah this has been happening for quite sometime now…sometimes my comments disappear..sometimes i cant access ur blog….n yes if i prefix http://www…cant open ur blog…

Mine case is worst….My ISP has blocked blogger and many other known blog services.And then i read this in internet:

I called my ISP and they confirmed that govt has given directives to block all blog sites in india.

It seems that govt is hell-bent on curbing our right to free speach.We are plannin to file a PIL against this move using the RTI-act.If possible….write something against this move of govt.

do you have netbunch? that’s what i have and they are HORRIBLE.
I am thinking of moving over to godaddy.com when i am done with this. They seem much more reliable than netbunch. that would be my recommendation. let me know what you choose.

Mesopia was pretty good and i didnt experience any problems with them. Looks like after they merged with that company and became NetBunch, their services have become crappy.
Why dont you ask Devesh which host he is on? Coz he has given me free space and i have no issues with it. I guess even he is very happy with them, and i’m sure he’s moved away from NetBunch.

Mehak: Thanks for your comment! Now try www in front of dotmsb. I guess its working now. These guys have finally sorted it out
Kulveer: Yeah, it was ridiculous of government to put on ban on blogs. But, don’t ya worry, it has been lifted.. you can access blogspot/typepad etc!
Poonam: Yes, I have netbunch. And, I’ really planning to shift to some decent host. Have checked plans at A Small range, Hostgator and DreamHost. Will check GoDaddy as well!
Monty: Yeah, mesopia was excellent. But the guys at netbunch has just killed the service levels that mesopia had maintained.

Well GoDaddy sucks and it is not that good. Dreamhost is a good and cheap option specially if you can get hold a high discount coupon. Just search in their forums. But from second year onwards you have to pay a higher price. I’m with bluehost.com and the service has been professional and courteous uptil now with no major problems.

Thanks for the great information i was able to get my new blog up last week. Thanks again! Keep up the great work with your blog. Also i found a coupon that will get up to $93 of hosting per year. I was able to save $57.24 with the coupon. Coupons Thanks again for the great info!
