iPhone 3G to cost Rs. 25,000+ in India

Apple has priced iPhone 3G at $199 in US of A. But, there is a catch - it comes along with a 2 year long contract with AT&T.

For an unlocked phone, Apple is planning to price it at 499 Euros in the European market.

So, if the same scenario is applicable in India and Apple sells unlocked iPhone 3G, I feel they are going to price it in Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000 bracket. Lets see if Apple can prove me wrong or not! :)

Apple is obviously not going to sell unlocked iPhones in India. It will follow the same regime as it did for BlackBerry phones in India but with a much larger marketing structure for the iPhone in India. They won’t subsidize the iPhone in India that is for sure but it will be interesting to see how Bharti goes about the data plans as well as the call plans bundled with iPhone. The overall cost could be kept to somewhere around the 15k-20k segment then I guess it could sell well! :D

Harry: I don’t think they are going to price it 15-20k price band. They can only do that, if they force customers to get into some type of contract. IMO, they are plenty of people who will buy iphone at price of around 25k. Why should they sell it for less? :)

I wish they’d reduce the price - I dont mind going on a contract with Vodafone - Been with them since ages !!
